Abstract

The following paper discusses the travel writing of three Chilean female authors, Amalia Errázuriz, Inés Echeverría (Iris) and Rita Salas (Violeta Quevedo), the specificity of their work and their representational strategies, given the religious sign under which they undertook their pilgrimages to important religious centers in the Middle East and Europe. They construct a voice within a patriarchal framework marked by a silence imposed on women. We shall review the strategies by which they shape their authorship and seek to socially legitimate the transgressions of their writing.
